“I Have Plans Of Making An Anthology And The Next One Will Be On Manthara”- Suchandra Vaaniya
Actor cum director and producer Suchandra Vaaniya’s short film The Arrival of Shurponakha (Shurponakhar Agomon) was screened at the 28th Kolkata International Film Festival.
A press conference was organized regarding this film and was graced by the director.
The short film’s story begins with the end of the war between Raavan and Ram. This was meant to mark the end of Sita’s exile. However, her purity was questioned. Intercut to a present-day Chhau retelling of the great epic and the mythical past. The film attempts to take a look at the life of Sita and reimagine what might have happened had Sita and Shurponakha, Raavan’s sister.
Suchandra said “We are familiar with the story of Ramayana and we know that Shurponakha is Raavan’s sister. But there are some other facets that we have tried to show in this film. The team has done research to bring out those stories and facts about the lady”.
Suchandra revealed that this will be an anthology and the next one will be on Manthara.
There are three songs in the film dedicated to Shurponakha.
The cast of the film consists of Rajlaxmi Kisku and Parvati Murmu.
The music has been composed by Soumya Rit and Avijit Acharya.
The cinematographer of the film is Manas Bhattacharya.
The short film’s duration is 14.58 minutes.
