“I Will Never Dare To Remake Satyajit Ray’s Films”-Sandip Ray
Prof. Manoshi Roychowdhury, Co-Chairperson of Techno India Group, came up with the concept for the Unwind-Boi Kotha Kow talk show series, which Techno India Group, the largest education provider in Eastern India, launched as part of its ongoing mission to provide students of diverse disciplines with a holistic learning environment.
The Human Library and Unwind have a similar conceptual framework.
Film director Mr. Sandip Ray was present on the fourth episode of Unwind at Techno India University.
The session was on the Magic of Storytelling with Cinematic Masterpieces and Mr Sandip Ray was in conversation with Prof Manoshi Roychowdhury, Co-Chairperson, Techno India Group.
Speaking at the event, Sandip Ray said “My father loved shooting outdoors. He used to see that the outdoor shoots would be around my school holidays during the summer or winter. In that way, me and my mother also could go out with him and have a good time”.
His first directorial film was Phatik Chand. He said “I did not allow my father to come to the set. I did not want people to say that my father had helped me in making the film. When the film was released, many audiences said that my father had helped in making the film and hence it was a decent one. So I knew I had made quite a good film as people thought that they could find traces of my father’s help in the film”.
Sandip Ray when questioned whether he would be remaking any of Satyajit Ray’s films said “It is a daring attempt to do. The way he made the films is too perfect. No one can make it better than him. It would not be the right thing to remake his films. They are masterpieces and I will not dare not make them again”.
The director added how he wanted to make films on Ray’s short stories again as short stories are very trendy in recent times. He had earlier made films on Ray’s short stories and the audience much liked them.
The engaging conversation was attended by eminent dignitaries and students who enjoyed listening to Sandip Ray.
