The largest diagnostic chain in Eastern India, Suraksha Diagnostic Limited (“Suraksha Clinic and Diagnostics”), which is accredited by the NABL and CAP, hosted an educational session on interventional radiology procedures at its Shyambazar location. This follows the Grand Radiology Meet 2025, where Suraksha Clinic and Diagnostics, in partnership with United Imaging, unveiled the UAcademy Learning Center.

The session was graced by Dr. Ankit Singh, MBBS, MD Radio Diagnosis, Consultant Radiologist at Suraksha Clinic and Diagnostics, and Dr. Soham Dasgupta, General Surgeon, MBBS, MS (GEN SURG) FIGES FALS FMAS FAIS FISCP FAGEIN (COLONOSCOPY) FACRSI, Consultant at Suraksha Clinic & Diagnostics.

Experts at The Grand Radiology Meet 2025 talked about the importance of interventional radiology and the significant paradigm shift in the surgical field and medical science that has occurred to make surgery safer and easier, as patients become more aware that they do not need major surgery. During that shift, open heart surgery became angioplasty, open abdominal surgery became laparoscopy, and now robotic surgery. Nowadays, the majority of the work is focused on making surgery a little procedure.

A subspecialty of medicine known as interventional radiology uses imaging methods like computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging, ultrasound, and X-rays to diagnose and treat a wide range of illnesses. Advanced imaging techniques are used in interventional radiology to perform minimally invasive diagnostic and therapeutic procedures, which minimize recovery time and eliminate the need for open surgery.

To get accurate tissue samples for the diagnosis of infections, cancer, and other disorders, procedures like Image-Guided FNAC, TRUS, and Trucut Biopsy are required. These treatments are typically carried out as outpatient or daycare procedures.

Experts at the Interventional Radiology session talked about how, by using real-time CT, X-ray, and ultrasound, Interventional Radiology procedures are less painful and need less recovery time than standard surgery. IR specialists help in treating conditions such as vascular disease, peripheral artery disease, organ-specific diseases, cancer, and others.

Ultrasound-guided Fine Needle Aspiration (FNA) of lymph nodes is part of image-guided FNA Cytology and Biopsy, which is utilized at Suraksha Clinic and Diagnostics to diagnose infections and malignancies. Additionally, complicated diagnostic scans are performed using specialized ultrasound techniques.

With more than 25 CT/MRI centers throughout West Bengal, Suraksha Clinic and Diagnostics provides a variety of minimally invasive treatments and interventional radiology services with an emphasis on image-guided biopsies, advanced vascular imaging, and cytologies.
