The Jadavpur University, a place of distinction and renown in the field of higher education, is associated with the private, unaided college in Kolkata, J.D. Birla Institute (JDBI). In recognition of its never-ending pursuit of excellence and the excellent standards it has established and upheld for years, 2010 saw the Institute receive the National Assessment and Accreditation Council’s (NAAC) highest “A” Grade. The college is currently getting ready for its third cycle of accreditation. The educational institution is part of the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF).

The Institute was founded in 1962 and has now served higher education for more than 60 years. During this time, it has expanded to meet the needs and requirements of the times. Originally a female-only institution, the college now offers co-ed BBA degrees along with six undergraduate and four graduate programs, plus one PG diploma program. In addition to similar inquiries made on the college website, the college has recently observed a rise in the number of applications from boys seeking admission to its scientific and business programs. The College thus wants to allow guys to enroll in the Science and Commerce programs that are solely available to ladies. Boys may now enroll in all courses.

A press conference was organized to announce the new co-educational status of the educational institute.

All of JDBI’s courses are cutting-edge initiatives with a dual emphasis on entrepreneurship and skill development. Each course has developed a unique reputation in the city over the years, and some are highly sought after by students. The fact that there are more applications each year than there are seats available is evidence of this. Approximately 1600 students are now enrolled on campus, and the alumni are in good standing.
