Kaushik Ganguly’s Next Palan Pays Tribute To Mrinal Sen On His Centenary Year
Kaushik Ganguly announced his next directorial venture ‘Palan’. This is a tribute to the late filmmaker, Mrinal Sen, to celebrate his centenary year.
Director Kaushik Ganguly, Prateek Chakraborty of Pramod Films, Suven Kumar Das of The Big Day, Paoli Dam, Mamata Shankar, and others graced the press meet.
Kaushik Ganguly said that he was extremely fortunate to meet him and Mrinal Sen even knew his family. He was also thankful that Mrinal Sen watched many of his works. After he saw the film Kharij, there were some changes that happened to the director. It is with that mindset he had begun to make this film.
The cast consists of Anjan Dutt, Mamata Shankar, Sreela Majumdar, Deboprotim Dasgupta, Jisshu U Sengupta, and Paoli Dam amongst others.
The music will be composed by Neel Dutt.
Paoli Dam said “I am too small a person to speak about such a world-famous director like Mrinal Sen. I got the chance to meet with him after my film Kaalbela was released. I got a call from an unknown number and when I picked it up, it was from him. He said that he liked my acting and wanted to meet me. I went to meet him and I listened attentively to what he was saying. And after listening to the name of the film, I was reminded of that day yet again”.
Anjan Dutt highlighted the fact that when Mrinal Sen cast him, he did not watch Bengali films and he wanted to be Al Pacino. It was Mrinal Sen who cast him in an unconventional role and also made him realize that he needed to know about World Cinema first.
The film will be jointly produced by Pramod Films & The Big Day.
The shoot for Palan will start on 25th March 2022. The film will be shot in different parts of the city.
