London-Based Dr. Anand Gupta’s Production On Raja Ram Mohan Roy’s 250th Birth Anniversary
Raja Ram Mohan Roy is credited with starting the modern Indian Renaissance because of the notable changes he made to India in the 18th and 19th centuries. The elimination of the cruel Sati Pratha was the highlight of his efforts. His actions were also crucial in ending child marriage and the purdah practice. Ram Mohan Roy established the Brahmo Samaj in 1828. He was given the title “Raja” in 1831 by Akbar II, the Mughal emperor. Roy traveled to England as the Mughal King’s representative to make sure Bentick’s ban on practicing Sati was upheld. While residing in Bristol, England, in 1833, he passed away from meningitis.
On the occasion of Raja Rammohan Roy’s 250th birth anniversary, a unique event ‘Charan Rekha Taba’ (Mystic Footprints) was held at Sri Ram Center. The event was jointly organized by Dakshinayan UK and Rabindra Kishore Sarkar.
The production featured artists from Kolkata and London.
The concept of this program was designed by Dr. Anand Gupta, Head of Dakshinayan UK.

In the instrumental music part Pandit Biplab Mandal (Percussion), Pandit Subrata Babu Mandal (Keyboard), Ustad Arshad Khan (Esraj), and Ustad Fateh Ali Khan (Sitar) took the program to another level.
Eminent Bollywood singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya was among the special guests. He was impressed with the performance. He wanted to get the production being performed during his Durga Puja in Mumbai.
Dr. Anand Gupta said this program would also be held in Delhi, Kolkata, Himachal Pradesh, and London.
