With his upcoming OTT series Bidaay, which will soon debut on the Sobsomoy platform, renowned director Mainak Bhaumik will investigate the eerie intersections of love, memory, and the paranormal. The series, which stars Anusha Viswanathan, Sawon Chakraborty, and Enakshi Ganguly, is expected to provide a compelling psychological horror experience based on human emotion and unsettling suspense.

The plot of Bidaay centers on a wedding photographer in Kolkata who makes contact with her ex-partner and consents to stay the night at his ancestral home. As she realizes she might have entered a reality that defies logic—and escape—what starts as a sentimental reunion gradually devolves into something much more unsettling.

Bidaay defies simple classification by fusing elements of supernatural thriller and psychological horror. It maintains a suspenseful, atmospheric storyline while delving into complex themes like love, trauma, and gender-based oppression.

“The most remarkable thing about ‘Bidaay’ is that you simply can’t fit it into one box. It may be referred to as a love story by some, a commentary on gender-based oppression by others, or a ghost story by still others. Although my character is very much real, its crisis isn’t exactly what you would anticipate. It has been a true pleasure to work with Mainakda and perform with Anusha once more. I hope Sobsomoy creates opportunities for a lot more artistic endeavours,” said Sawon Chakraborty.

“Preparing for and shooting ‘Bidaay’ was a magical experience—not just because of the genre, but because of the incredible teamwork. The team as a whole contributed something unique to the project, and Sawon is an amazing co-actor. This trip, led by Mainak Bhaumik, has left us with priceless memories.
