Manipal Hospitals Organizes Special Workshop On Complex PCI
At their Mukundapur, Kolkata Unit, Manipal Hospitals, one of the biggest healthcare networks in India, held a sophisticated workshop on “Complex Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI)” techniques. India is known as the Heart Attack Capital of the World. Through live demonstrations and discussions of the most recent developments in PCI, the workshop addressed urgent cardiac care concerns under the direction of Dr. Marc Silvestri, a distinguished interventional cardiologist from Clinique Axium, Aix-en-Provence, France.
Prominent cardiologists and medical staff from Manipal Hospitals attended the briefing on this workshop, including Dr. Uttam Kumar Saha, HOD-Cardiology, Manipal Hospitals, Mukundapur, Dr. Amit Bhauwala, Consultant – Interventional Cardiologist, Manipal Hospital, Mukundapur, Dr. Dilip Kumar, Director of the Cardiac Cath Lab & Senior Consultant Interventional Cardiologist & Electrophysiologist, Medica Superspeciality Hospital (now a part of Manipal Hospitals) and Dr. Soumya Patra, Consultant &Incharge- Cardiology, Manipal Hospitals Mukundapur).
These specialists emphasized the significance of advanced PCI technology and the increased rates of heart attacks and sudden cardiac fatalities, especially among younger persons.
Because it reopens the blocked arteries to restore blood circulation, this minimally invasive procedure is essential in the treatment of heart attacks and severe coronary artery disease. Three sophisticated live case demonstrations of innovative PCI techniques that are intended to treat complicated coronary problems that conventional PCI frequently isn’t able to handle were included in the session.
A less invasive, safer, and quicker recovery is provided by this alternate treatment for open heart surgery, which is especially beneficial for high-risk patients. Complex PCI can greatly enhance a patient’s quality of life by lowering symptoms like exhaustion, shortness of breath, and chest pain. Additionally, this surgery can quickly open clogged arteries and save lives in acute heart attack circumstances.
Given the worrisome rise in post-COVID cardiac events, especially among young adults, this workshop provided a forum for information sharing in the quickly changing field of cardiac treatment. Dr. Silvestri’s proficiency in intricate PCI techniques offered priceless insights that helped improve the strategy for handling difficult cases and improving patient care. Even though complex PCI is not new in India, it is beneficial for cardiologists to acquire a global perspective and learn about the technology firsthand from such a renowned expert.
