The largest single female-led Hindi film franchise that has won praise and admiration for more than a decade is Mardaani, produced by Yash Raj Films! The popular franchise has gained widespread acclaim and has become a cult favorite among moviegoers.

On the anniversary of Mardaani 2’s premiere, YRF formally announced that it will be producing Mardaani 3, in which Rani Mukerji will reprise his role as a daring police officer named Shivani Shivaji Roy. The only lady to have a successful franchise to her credit as a solo lead is Rani Mukerji, one of the best actors in Indian cinema history, with Mardaani!

“I’m excited to announce that we will begin filming Mardaani 3 in April 2025. Playing a character that has only shown me love while wearing the police uniform is always a great experience. As an homage to all the unsung, courageous, selfless police officers who toil day and night to keep us safe, I am honored to reprise my role as this feisty cop in Mardaani 3” said the actress.

According to Rani, Mardaani 3 will have an even greater adrenaline sensation than the first two movies.

“We were hoping to find a script that would elevate the experience of watching a Mardaani franchise film when we set out to make Mardaani 3. After seeing Mardaani 3 in theaters, I sincerely hope that the audience shares my excitement for what we have in store” said Rani.

“We have a certain responsibility to deliver to the expectations that people have because Mardaani is an incredibly popular franchise. We’ll try our hardest to fulfill this. Mardaani 3 is violent, sinister, and dark. Therefore, I’m curious to see how people react to our movie. I hope they give this movie the same level of affection that they do” added the actress.

In Mardaani 3, Aditya Chopra will enable two gifted members of the writing and directing teams to work together creatively and carry on the franchise’s tradition.

The script for Mardaani 3 is written by Aayush Gupta, who is well-known for his work on The Railway Men. As the screenplay and story writer for The Railway Men, Aayush made his streaming debut. The series became the most successful series in India and a worldwide success. His edgy, gut-wrenching, and hard-hitting writing received praise all around the world.

Abhiraj Minawala, who was also trained by YRF, will direct Mardaani 3. Aditya Chopra saw his promise and first permitted him to help in movies like Band Baaja Baarat, Gunday, Sultan, Jab Tak Hai Jaan, and Tiger 3, to mention a few. Currently serving as War 2’s Associate Director, Abhiraj has been trusted by the firm to assume control of the popular Mardaani brand.
