Mayor Firhad Hakim Inaugurates Foot Overbridge At Exide Crossing
At the bustling Chowringhee-AJC Bose Road intersection, also known as Exide crossing, city mayor Janab Firhad Hakim inaugurated a foot overbridge for Kolkata residents. Thousands of pedestrians use the busy intersection every day, and the over-bridge near the Exide headquarters is intended to significantly reduce traffic congestion around the crossing and make it safe for them.
The inauguration ceremony was also attended by the KMC chairperson, Smt. Mala Roy and other government dignitaries, in the presence of Exide MD & CEO Mr. Subir Chakraborty.
Subir Chakraborty, MD & CEO of Exide, stated that the company is pleased to have contributed significantly over the past 75 years to both the city’s economic community and socio-cultural environment. “As a result, we believe it is our obligation to contribute in some way to the community, especially as this crossing is integral to who we are. We hope pedestrians, especially the elderly and the children who attend school every day, would now use this safe manner of crossing the busy road intersection and the administration will extend their assistance to facilitate the same. This is our Durga Puja gift to Kolkata in our Diamond Jubilee year” said Subir Chakraborty
Exide is a social enterprise that has sponsored over Rs 5 crores toward the 42-meter-long FOB. The city’s engineering firm Titagarh Wagons Ltd built the bridge, which connects the two sides of Asutosh Mukherjee Road. The over-bridge contains a regular staircase on each side of the bridge as well as an escalator for the convenience of people. Exide Industries Limited will look for the structure for the next 30 years.
