Monish Gujral, custodian of the Moti Mahal brand was in Kolkata and he conducted a session during which he threw light on the culinary journey behind Moti Mahal.

Moti Mahal was established in 1920 and has 200 outlets globally. The claim to fame of this restaurant chain is due to its founder Kundan Lal Gujral who invented the two staples of Indian cuisine-the Tandoori as well as the Butter Chicken. Dal Makhani is another dish perfected by the founder.

Monish Gujral revealed how his grandfather perfected the Tandoori chicken that is now used in the urban version style. Earlier the Tandoori style of baking breads in clay ovens was a staple in Punjabi and Frontier cuisine. It is only with him that the modern style came into use.

Monish Gujral also revealed that he will be coming up with two books-one is a trail book and the other is an urban health book.

The first restaurant of Moti Mahal Delux Tandoori Trails in Kolkata was opened in April 2019. The restaurant consists of 80 seats.

The 4000 square feet restaurant serves vegetarian and non-vegetarian dishes to the patrons. Indian and Chinese dishes are available to the patrons.

Some of the Indian dishes which is a must try for the customers include Chicken Bemisal, Mutton Roganjosh, Dal Makhani, Butter Chicken, Chicken Angara Kebab, Fish Ajwain Tikka and others.

In the Chinese section, the must try dish include Thai Basil Rice.

The pocket pinch for two is Rs 1000. For the promotion of the restaurant, 1:1 is available on alcohol for the patrons.

As a brand, Moti Mahal will be opening a new outlet in Colombo soon. They will also be launching a select range of spices for the patrons in the near future.
