“My First Directed Play and My Debut Feature Film is Bish”- Director Jyotishman Chattopadhyay at 26th KIFF
Bengali film Bish was screened at 26th Kolkata International Film Festival in the Bengali Panorama section. A press meet was organized that was attended by director Jyotishman Chattopadhyay, Shantilal Mukherjee, Anindya Banerjee, music director Prabir Das and others.
The story of Bish revolves around Priyabroto and Pritha whose marriage is on the verge of breaking down after 12 years. They have lost all compatibility in spite of having a love marriage. They now have hatred for each other. In order to escape the misery of the marriage, he decides to kill his wife.
The producer of the film is Dhritisha Chattopadhyay. The screenplay and the cinematography are by Arunava Khasnobis.
The cast of the film consists of Shantilal Mukherjee, Anindya Banerjee, and Nayana Palit.
Anindya Banerjee said “I play Priyabroto in the film. He plans to kill his wife. What I feel is that when a person decides to kill another person, it is more a pathological problem. It is not about values and morals. My character in the film is violent and plans to murder his wife. This is a pathological problem as I understand”.
Shantilal Mukherjee mentioned that he had known the director for many years and his theatre group had enacted many of the plays written by the director. Incidentally, Bish was the director’s first directed play and now has become his debut feature film.
The film is 92 minutes in duration.
