Nascency is an exhibition on Tribal Stories & Indigenous Knowledge. The inauguration took place at The Asiatic Society Kolkata in the august presence of Prof. Swapan Kumar Pramanick, President, The Asiatic Society, Kolkata, Dr.Satyabrata Chakrabarti, General Secretary, The Asiatic Society, Kolkata, Prof. Asok Kanti Sanyal, Treasurer( Acting), The Asiatic Society, Kolkata, Ms. Reena Dewan, Chairperson, B-CAF & President WBALC WICCI, Ms Ruby Palchaudhuri, President Emeritus, Craft Council of West Bengal and Mr. Kevin Goh, Deputy Consul-General, Consulate of Australia in Kolkata.
This exhibition was the result of 18 months of research and documentation of the oral tradition of tribal stories and indigenous culture.
“The Patachitra painting tradition, which has been passed down through the generations, lacks a formal school or organized preservation, which over time has resulted in the loss of several priceless works of art. However, a key milestone has been reached as a result of the team at B-CAF’s tireless research and collaboration with eminent art historians. Working closely with patuas, we were able to recreate the entire sequence of Patachitra paintings in organic hues, including the ones that had been lost over time” said Ms. Reena Dewan, Chairperson B-CAF and President WBALC WICCI.
Visitors can see Patachitra paintings daily from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at The Asiatic Society, Kolkata, Rajendralala Mitra Bhavan, from 9th August to 14th August (Sunday closed).
The event is open to all.
