New Initiatives Of Ruby General Hospital On 30th Anniversary

On April 25, 2025, Ruby General Hospital commemorated its 30th anniversary. Hon. Chief Minister Jyoti Basu officially opened the hospital on April 25, 1995, making it the first NRI hospital in Eastern India. On October 27, 1995, Mother Teresa officially opened the Mother Teresa Ward and the Cardiac Surgery Unit.
By 2025, it will have 500 beds and a cancer centre, according to Dr. Kamal K. Dutta, the founder and chairman.
For the past ten years, Ruby Cancer Centre, a cutting-edge cancer facility, has been providing services to the people of Eastern India. The second state-of-the-art radiotherapy machine, Varian TrueBeam, was inaugurated by Mrs. Ruby Dutta, Sister Michael from the Missionaries of Charity, and Vivek Maharaj from Adyapeath Dakshineswar. With its sophisticated mapping system of the cancer tumour and its Eclipse version 18 planning system for precise radiation treatment of the tumour, the Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator machine, Version 3.0, is the most user-friendly.
Dr. Dutta added that Ruby Hospital will introduce the first digital PET scan in Kolkata starting in June 2025. By doing this, the PET CT scan will take five minutes instead of thirty, and the patient will only receive one-third of the radiation dose. Additionally, it will improve the clarity of the images. The PET CT installation is already underway. Ruby Cancer Centre will become the premier cancer treatment centre in Eastern India thanks to these two machines (Varian TrueBeam and Digital PET CT).
The main objective of Ruby Hospital was to provide high-quality care at a reasonable price. For five years in a row, from 2021 to 2025, Newsweek Magazine in the United States named Ruby the only hospital in Eastern India among the top 50 hospitals in India.
Some important announcements on the 30th anniversary are as follows:
A free mental wellness clinic is being opened for the general public in recognition of the enormous importance of mental health. Appointments can be made via the Ruby 24×7 mobile app. Every age group and segment of our society will be able to access this free psychological consultation.
850 Adyapeath Ashram orphans and impoverished children will be cared for by Ruby Hospital for their yearly physicals as well as any medical or surgical emergencies that necessitate hospitalisation, making the 30th anniversary celebration truly remarkable.
Additionally, they will collaborate closely with the Missionaries of Charity to prevent, diagnose, and detect cancer early. They will conduct routine cancer screening sessions for all of their homes, including those for the homeless, children, the sick and dying, and women with physical and mental disabilities. The hospital will also handle the cancer screening diagnostics for those who are recommended to do so. Their goal is to raise awareness and educate people about early cancer detection. Through the Ruby Cancer Care and Research Foundation, They already run awareness campaigns and camps. Early cancer detection can improve patient outcomes, lower treatment costs, improve quality of life, increase survival rates, and lessen the need for aggressive treatment.
In addition to the aforementioned initiatives, Ruby General Hospital has made the decision to perform 30,000 preventive exams in order to identify hypertension and diabetes. The “Be Healthy” kiosk has been installed in Ruby General Hospital’s outpatient department, allowing regular people to get their blood pressure and blood sugar levels checked every day from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
With such wonderful initiatives in line, Ruby Hospital is geared up to serve the people better.
