A novel titled “Dreams Lie in the Paddy Ears of a New Dawn” was unveiled in the presence of the author Tapan Kumar Samanta, popular science writer Professor Shyamal Chakraborty, Nandan magazine editor Aniruddha Chakraborty, social activist and writer Gautam Ganguly, renowned poet and activist Prasun Bhowmik, and artist Sandip Baul.

“Dreams Lie in the Paddy Ears of a New Dawn” expresses optimism for a better tomorrow. Through this book, the author Tapan Kumar Samanta depicts Bengal’s sociopolitical environment, which emerges from the Medinipur district’s political context. The novel’s release also served as a tribute to rebel Matangini Hazra, who spearheaded an attack on a Medinipur police station on the 1942 Quit India Movement’s Martyrs Day.

The fact that Tapan Samanta’s father, Harendranath Samanta, was a freedom fighter and that he was born in 1958 is notable. After earning his master’s degree in physiology from Calcutta University, Tapan Samanta worked as a teacher for more than 35 years. He held the esteemed position of headmaster of multiple higher secondary schools for 22 years, including Shimulberya Yogendra Vidyapith in East Medinipur, Domkal Bhavataran Higher Secondary School, and Amritkund Krishna Kamini Vidyamandir in Murshidabad. He has spent more than 35 years actively participating in the people’s science movement.

Samanta has always loved to write, and he has spent a long time participating in creative endeavors. He specializes in science writing and has had many pieces published in a variety of periodicals. This two-volume novel is his debut work. He vividly depicts Bengal’s political, social, and cultural history from 1920 to 1977 in the book, including the ascent of the left-wing administration. The novel captures the highs and lows of Bengali political movements, especially in the 1960s and 70s, the struggles of the left, and Medinipur’s socioeconomic history.

A great book to add to your collection.
