Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia To Be Honored At 10th Edition Of Behala Classical Festival
The press conference to announce the 10th season of Behala Classical Festival took place in the presence of Pandit Tejendra Narayan Majumder, Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya, Pandit Samar Saha, Pandit Bickram Ghosh, Kaushiki Chakraborty, Rupak Saha, and others.
This is the tenth edition of the music festival and this is organized by Behala Sanskritik Sammilani.
The festival this year is dedicated to the memory of Pandit Subhankar Banerjee who died last year. The festival will give him a Posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award which will be handed over to his wife Mrs. Nivedita Banerjee on an inaugural day.
The stage has been dedicated to Barun Das, the sound designer for the last 9 years who died last year in the pandemic.
Shyam Sundar Company Jewellers Sarvottam Samman award will be presented to Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia.
Speaking at the press meet, Bickram Ghosh said “I had never thought that we will be organizing a music festival without Subhankar. He was such a great musician. However, I believe he is with us. And with his memory, we will continue with this music festival”.
Bickram Ghosh also said that youngsters should listen to classical music because the artists perform without any rehearsals. They perform on the spot. In Western music, there is a rehearsal done and the artists know what they will be playing. But that does not happen with Indian classical music. The musicians perform on the spot.
Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya said that the Behala Classical Festival is not a commercial program. But all the artists participating in the festival love music and hence they take part in it. This is more of a matter of the heart for the artists.
Behala Classical Festival will be organized from 9th to 12th January 2022 at Blind School Ground, Behala. Some of the performers at the music festival this time are Pandit Biswamohan Bhatt, Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty, Ojas Adhiya, Pandit Suven Chatterjee, Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Pandit Bickram Ghosh, Pandit Sanatan Goswami, and others.
With the Behala Classical Festival, this will be like a New Year gift for the music lovers in the city.
