Patachitra Art Exhibition Organized At Taj City Centre Newtown Kolkata
Taj City Centre Newtown Kolkata organized an exclusive Patachitra art exhibition. A distinct folk tradition known as Patachitra involves visual storytelling and musical accompaniment. In Patachitra, tales are illustrated as frames on lengthy scrolls, which the Patuas slowly unfold while telling the tale through music.
The artists gracing the occasion were Pampa Chitrakar and Tiya Chitrakar.
After the stupendous success of the first edition of Paints & Strokes, this is the second edition of the exhibition.
With the help of this exhibition, the hotel brought alive the mythological and traditional heritage of the Indian villages.
The name “Patachitra” refers to traditional, cloth-based scroll painting that originated in the eastern Indian states of West Bengal, Odisha, and some regions of Bangladesh.
The Patachitra art form is renowned for its fine details and the mythical and folktale stories that are engraved in them. Pattachitra is a piece of ancient Odisha art that was initially made for ritual purposes and as gifts for visitors to Puri and other Odisha temples. Patachitras are part of an ancient Bengali tale art style that was initially used as a visual aid during singing.
The common styling elements are flower and leaf motifs. It helps in lending an aesthetic appeal to the artwork.
Colors like red, green, white, orange, and dark blue made from natural ingredients were used for coloring these drawings.
Pampa and Tiya Chitrakar even sang songs that gelled well with the paintings.
Taj City Centre Newtown Kolkata has always been focused on women-centric activities. And with this initiative, the hotel furthered the same spirit.
