Only when fights happen between the armed forces- reports come out in the media. This is important but there are instances which are not reported. People go out of their homes. And they often do not return back home. These happen on a regular basis. These need to be told”.

Ritu Kumar who is the mother of the director of the film and also the film’s costume designer was immensely proud of her son’s achievements as a film maker. Though there was not much scope for costume designing in the film, she did her best to highlight the rich traditions of Kashmir.

She recreated Kashmiri shawls for the film. These were worn by the locals in the old times. The shawls were printed in Delhi and her main aim was to make them look like old shawls.

She also mentioned that since Kashmir was an isolated part of the world, people did not go to the mainland to get synthetic dye. Instead they use vegetable dyes. The fabrics they use are wools which are essentially protein fibres. This is the reason why the dresses of the Kashmiri people have a different texture and colour.
