Putulnama

Putulnama is a Bengali film that is a part of the Asian Select (NETPAC Award). The director Ranajit Ray was at the 30th Kolkata International Film Festival to throw light on the film.

Ranajit Ray’s earlier films were Image-makers of Kumartuli (2014), Aoleang (2015), and Dance of the Doomed (2016).

The story of the film is about Madhab who inherited this puppetry art from his father. His fading skills are a mirror of the decline happening in puppet theatre. The film shows the struggles between the reality and the dreams of an artist.

Speaking at the event, the director said “I went for some work and I chanced upon this artist and the puppet art form. The amount of dedication and work that they are required is immense. However, the monetary gains from the art form are very low. As a result, no new individual is learning this art form or coming into this industry. The ones who are pursuing it are doing it out of passion for the art form. I was mesmerized by the struggle of the artist and yet how he persevered to carry on with the art form is what amazed me”.

The producer, cinematographer, and editor of the film is Ranajit Ray.

The cast of the film consists of Madhab Chakraborty (Madhab).

The film is of a duration of 70 minutes.
