Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Cup Reception; Amazing Racing Event
The Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Cup reception was held at the Royal Calcutta Turf Club (RCTC) by the British Deputy High Commission in Kolkata. On February 10, 2024, the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Cup horse race was held at RCTC.
The British Deputy High Commission in Kolkata hosted the reception every year till 2020, coinciding with the officially recognized Queen Elizabeth II horse race. The race’s new moniker was chosen after Her Majesty passed away in September 2022. It was the first pre-reception following the pandemic.
Dr.Andrew Fleming, Deputy High Commissioner to East and Northeast India hosted the reception. It was graced by Sudipto Sarkar, Chairman, RCTC, Harjinder Kang, His Majesty’s Trade Commissioner for South Asia, and the British Deputy High Commissioner to Western India.
“This is truly a remarkable race now fitted to our former Monarch who so very much loved horses,” said Dr Andrew Fleming, the British Deputy High Commissioner to East and Northeast India.
Since 1953, the Queen Elizabeth II Cup race has been held at RCTC. With a distance of 2800 meters, the Queen Elizabeth II Memorial Cup event was the longest race of the day. Aashay Doctor, the champion, accepted the QE II Memorial Cup 2024 from Dr. Fleming on behalf of trainer Arti Doctor. Third Avenue was the winning horse that jockey Yash Narredu rode.
