For the past six years, the tradition of burning the effigy during Dussehra has been organized by the Sanmarg and Salt Lake Sanskritik Sansad. This year also the tradition was followed and 10 Ravana effigy were burnt at the Central Park (Salt Lake), Kolkata. Last year, a 60-feet tall effigy of Ravana was burnt by the committee.

The main objective of this event was to make the citizens aware about the rich culture and tradition of West Bengal. The event was attended by Vaishali Dalmiya, Member of legislative Assembly, Sabyasachi Dutta, Mayor of Bidhannagar, Sujit Bose, Member of Legislative Assembly, Gyanwant Singh, Commissioner of Bidhannagar City Police, Lalit Beriwala, President of Salt Lake Sanskritik Sansad and many other eminent personalities.

The event saw a huge turn up of thousands of devotees.

Apart from burning the effigy of Ravana, a spectacular fire show was also organized. And for the first time a mass aarti of goddess Lakshmi was organized. Famous artists and groups (of India’s Got Talent fame) from various states performed during the function.
