The digital world was once a far-off dream for hundreds of kids in the isolated Kultali region of the Sundarbans. A lot of people had never used a computer. That is different today. By partnering with Vivekananda Adarsha Vidyalaya to unveil the school’s first-ever fully equipped IT Lab, Taj Bengal Kolkata, under Paathya, IHCL‘s sustainability and social impact framework, has taken a revolutionary step towards closing the digital divide and providing nearly 300 underprivileged students with new opportunities.

Three hundred kids and twelve teachers—the majority of whom are first-generation students—will have their educational experiences revolutionized by this project. This is a turning point in many people’s academic and career goals since it is their first direct experience with computers and digital learning.

Established in 2007 and run by the Smt. Anu Chowdhury Memorial Educational Foundation, Vivekananda Adarsha Vidyalaya educates children from nursery school through middle school, the majority of whom come from households with daily wage workers, migratory laborers, and fishermen. Bright and motivated kids were left detached from the digital world because the school lacked the resources to establish an IT lab, despite having the space and the will to do so.

Taj Bengal Kolkata answered that call. The hotel converted an old classroom into a lively, contemporary IT Lab and gave 20 fully functional PCs. Children may study, explore, and dream in this inspiring facility, which has been fully renovated with new carpeting, flooring, and paint.

More than just a lesson is in store as the first keyboard clicks reverberate throughout the new facility. For the young people of the Sundarbans, it is the beginning of a new chapter. This project is a testament to what can happen when corporate goals and community vision align to heal divisions and change lives.
