On June 5, Sarsuna College commemorated World Environment Day 2025. The goal was to beautify an extremely crowded, building-infested city while simultaneously bringing in a large-scale urban plantation phase. Motivated by renowned environmentalist Sri Rasheed Image of the Greens Wildlife Lovers Forum, Wayanad, Kerala, they will all join The Movement, Plant a Tree, and make donations in support of the cause.  Like the well-known Krishnachura tree, which blooms red, they will transform their surroundings by planting a large number of Cassia Javanica trees, which will eventually bloom pink. Their goal was to make Behala a quaint destination for locals and draw tourists who appreciate flowers, thus fostering ecotourism.

Prashasti Bhattacharyya, college vice principal and Hol, envisioned an environmentally conscious Kolkata where people understood their duty to the environment. In addition to raising a responsible environmentalist, the dream is cleverly designed to make a section of the city more attractive. She stated that everyone must have a moral and responsible attitude toward the environment. Not just in the name of a one-day celebration, an institution can play a part in promoting moral values throughout the community through routine and habitual actions. They will also prohibit the use of plastic in college going forward.

Eminent individuals supporting the initiative were ex-Principal Sir, Dr. Subhankar Tripathi, Sri Angshuman Mukhopadhyay, DFO, Forest Devt Corp of WB, Dr.Kalyan Rudra, Chairman, WBPCB, Smt. Sanhita Das, Chairperson, Borough XIV, KMC, Sri Abhijeet Mukherjee, Sri Ghanasree Bagh, Sri Sudeep Polley, Sri Partha Sarkar, Smt. Malabika Baidya (Councillors of Behala wards), Sri Anjan Das, ex Chairperson of Borough XIV,  Dr. Md Abdul Gani, ex Sp. Secretary, Govt. of WB, Sri Anirban Misra, entrepreneur, Sri Utpal Dutta, Sri Kalyan Sengupta, social workers, Kolkata Police, and OC, Behala Women PS.

All college instructors and non-teaching staff have contributed to the cause, but special recognition needs to go to Sri Deepak Kumar, the manager, who enabled PNB to make the initial Rs. 50,000 donation for environmental causes.

As the saplings were planted in various ward locations, a brief musical composed by Sarsuna College faculty, staff, and students to demonstrate their love and concern for Mother Nature was prepared and performed in a tableau. The musical “রবীন্দ্র ভাবনায় প্রকৃতি ও আমি” was also performed in the college auditorium. The college’s alumni filmmaking team, led by aspiring filmmaker Om Chanda, directed the musical, which was planned by teachers and students.

Participating in the program were all students, including those from the NSS. The TMCP unit of college students participated actively in the plantation work. Sarsuna College has evolved into a hub for education that combines curriculum-based instruction with activities such as fostering stewardship, acting, and promoting environmental awareness. The college is always improving and has excellent facilities. In addition to their regular university coursework, students have the opportunity to receive job-based training in various fields.
