Series Bhog’s Power Lies In Its Psychological & Emotional Tension

Some stories are felt, like an echo that reverberates in the room long after the last word has been spoken. Avik Sarkar’s eerie and acclaimed audio story, Bhog, has now found a new home on screen. The story, which was directed by Parambrata Chattopadhyay, makes its visual debut as a hoichoi Original, revealing its mysteries in a new cinematic language while maintaining the psychological depth that made it a cult favourite.
Hoichoi held an exclusive Up Close with the Team of Bhog to commemorate this historic adaptation. Held in front of the media and a few guests, the event provided an immersive experience with the Bhog universe. The evening, which was hosted by RJ Deep, brought together the main cast members, Anirban Bhattacharya, Parno Mittra, with Director Parambrata Chattopadhyay, and the story’s original writer, Avik Sarkar. They had an open discussion about their personal experiences, the complex characters, the story’s emotional and creative journey, and bringing Bhog to the screen.

The official trailer for the series was screened as one of the evening’s highlights, giving viewers a terrifying glimpse of the psychological discomfort, emotional undertones, and atmospheric tension that characterise Bhog. A specially prepared bhog platter was served to guests as a fitting tribute to the show’s evocative theme. The series’s rich symbolism, emotional depth, and lingering unease were all reflected in the food.
“Bhog is a story that thrives in the spaces between words—in silence, in sorrow, in suppressed truths. To visually adapt it, a haunting yet relatable emotional rhythm had to be created,” said director Parambrata Chattopadhyay.
“This isn’t a loud thriller. It infiltrates. The power lies in the psychological and emotional tension. It remains with you,” said Anirban Bhattacharya, who plays Atin in the series.

Parno Mittra, who portrays the crucial role of Damri, said, “Bhog has a lovely stillness. Though fragile, it has a lot of significance. The sort of tale that requires you to devote yourself to it”.
Bhog promises to obfuscate the distinctions between memory and mystery, guilt and grief, with its eerie silences, brewing tension, and emotional depth. As the narrative plays out on screen, viewers are encouraged to do more than watch; they are also encouraged to feel, think, and recall.
Bhog will be available only on Hoichoi starting on 1st May.
