“Shibu and Nandita Are Thoughtful Directors”- Exclusive Interview of Anashua Majumdar
Anashua Majumdar after Mukherjee Dar Bou will be seen in another film by Windows Production titled Gotro. She will be seen essaying the central character of Mukti Devi. The Kolkata Mail correspondent caught up with the versatile actress on her journey in the film Gotro. Excerpts..
How did Mukti Devi happen?
Anashua Majumdar- It was during the dubbing of Mukherjee Dar Bou that Shiborposad told me to keep dates in a certain month. He said he had something in mind and I had to do that role. So that is how I bagged the role of Mukti Devi after the last film Mukherjee Dar Bou.
How did you become Mukti Devi for Gotro?
Aanashua Majumdar- Nandita Roy told me that the character is based on Shibu’s mother. So she took me to meet her one day. She is such a nice, educated and great human being. It is not easy to copy one person’s traits and show it on screen. I have tried to portray her as much as possible. Copying everything is also not what wants. So I have improvised a bit and the director duo was there to help me. I think they have liked my work. Now God knows how the audience will react to it.
You have worked with Manali before. How was the experience of working with her again?
Anashua Majumdar- She is a very nice girl. She stays near to my home and she has always kept contact with me. She even calls me up at midnight to wish me on my birthday. We had worked together in Bou Kotha Kou and Sokhi. She is a befitting choice as Jhuma in Gotro.
You have worked with Nigel for the first time. How was your experience?
Anashua Majumdar- I have worked with a few actors in the film beforehand and with some for the first time. It was a great experience. Nigel is a good actor and he has done a good job. Shibu and Nandita both were very caring and Nandita used to come after every shot and praise me for the performance. I felt like a child who was being praised for her good work. Though this is a relatively new production team for me, but they have made me feel so comfortable.
Are there any traits of Mukti Devi in your personality?
Anashua Majumdar- Yes, there are some elements which have made me identify with the character easily. I am not so educated like her but I am strict with myself and yes, I have a bit of a temper too. But I do not show that at work. Because I believe film making is a team work and I am a senior actress now. Hence I must control my emotions and be a bit calm so that the juniors can learn from that.
Rangabati has become a craze now. How was the shooting experience?
Anashua Majumdar- It was an enjoyable experience. All the crew had a great time shooting the song. Dancing in the sand is not easy but Devlina and Om have done a great job. And the singing by Iman and Surojit is also exceptional. Since I have Blood Pressure issues, the director duo ensured that my portion is shot beforehand and I get ample rest. That is so thoughtful of them.
The topic in Gotro is relevant in today’s times. Do you think it will make people think or will it give rise to more controversies?
Anashua Majumdar- I do not know about the controversies. But it will definitely make people think. I do not believe in such caste and creed differences like Mukti Devi. It has become important that we all think about such vital issues too and not just come and enjoy the films. so I think it will make a difference.
Any message for your fans…
Anashua Majumdar- (Surprised) Oh!! I have fans too. (smiles) I just have one request. Support me and do watch my works- be it on the small screen or in films. It is your support that motivates me to work hard. So keep on loving me.
We wish the feisty actress all the best for her endeavour as Mukti Devi!!
