Shuvaprasanna’s Solo Exhibition On Chaplin Open Now For The Public

A solo exhibition “A Genius & The Common Man” by renowned artist Shuvaprasanna, in collaboration with Kolkata Centre For Creativity, was formally inaugurated by Goutam Ghose, Actor and Director, June Malia, Actor, and Priti Patel, renowned Manipuri dancer.
Charlie Chaplin, the legend whose movie character gave voice to the disadvantaged by fusing wit with silent resistance—a spirit that continues to resonate across generations and geographies—is the inspiration behind the exhibition. Shuvaprasanna delves deeply into Chaplin’s emotional and visual lexicon through this body of work. The paintings show Chaplin not just as an icon but also as a reflection of the average person by emphasizing the nuanced language of expression, the tilt of a head, the pause of a gesture, and the tension between laughter and melancholy.

The paintings, which are created in liquid acrylic on canvas, use movement and texture to convey humor, joy, and playfulness. The fluidity of the media gives a timeless topic a modern visual language while reflecting the vitality of Chaplin’s on-screen persona. The artist’s consistent practice and long-standing interest in social narratives in art are the sources of this body of work.
“What struck me about Chaplin is that his grief never seemed far away, and his humor never seemed cheap. His work feels more alive than ever as we navigate complexity and contradiction today, and that’s what I wanted to explore on canvas,” said artist Shuvaprasanna.
The exhibition is open to the public from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM at Kolkata Centre For Creativity from 2nd to 22nd January, 2026.
