Erstwhile photojournalist with a leading daily newspaper and a director, Soumodeep Ghosh Chowdhury is also a writer in his own right. His first book was titled Film Director’s World. The book was about the lives and works of 25 film directors from different parts of the world. Satyajit Ray was the only director on the list of 25 directors. It was while writing this book that Soumodeep thought of writing a book on each of the 25 directors.

Satyajit Ray being his favorite director, began making a film on the legendary director a few years ago. It was made keeping in mind the 100^th birth anniversary of Ray. The global pandemic led to the stopping of the project after 80 percent of the work was already done. to make the film, Soumodeep conducted detailed research on Ray and his works. He decided to start with the book after he saw that there was no way to finish the film.

His second book Subject-Satyajit Ray is his second published book. In this book, eminent personalities have talked about Ray and the events that happened in his life. There are many books on Ray’s films, drawings, and writings. However, he was also a man of flesh and blood and this has remained elusive to the common man. With his book, Soumodeep has tried to showcase the extraordinary man who was a simple man underneath.

Soumodeep expressed his gratitude to the publishers of the book Sushmita Basu Singh and Raja Mukherjee of Rritobak for publishing his book on the 100^th birth anniversary of Ray.

The book was unveiled at the Kolkata International Book Fair in 2022.
