“Srabanti Should Have A Dictionary Of Her Own”-Saheb Bhattacharya and Srabanti’s Exclusive Interview
Saheb Bhattacharya and Srabanti will be sharing screen space in the upcoming Bengali film Uraan. The Kolkata Mail correspondent Priyanka Dutta caught up with the duo in an exclusive chat just before the release of the film. Excerpts..
You have been paired for the first time. How was the experience?
Srabanti- (laughs) Saheb kept me in check whenever I acted crazy during the shoot of the film.
Saheb- I realized that a new dictionary should be made containing words framed by Srabanti. Some of the words include Gitkhani, Nina Ha Ha, Nina Na Na, Adu and so on. I used to ask Saheb whether he was feeling sleepy or not- Nina Ha Ha or Nina Na Na. This was just like you will ask kids whether they were feeling sleepy or not. Frankly you see this is what Saheb will remember later on how much fun he had on the sets of the film.
There is a lot written about in the media about arsenic in water. From that angle, how much do you think will this film be important?
Saheb- As celebrities, people expect us to comment or do something about such crucial issues. Many celebrities are now protesting by participating in rallies and marches. While the rest of us do our bit by acting in films and spreading awareness about the issue through our work!!
Srabanti- Akshay Kumar spread awareness about the importance of having toilets in your homes with his film Toilet. Similarly with this film, we hope people will become more aware about arsenic in water. Water is life. You need water to survive. But arsenic in water will lead to your death.
Why did you agree to do the film?
Saheb- Firstly, the story which was unique and that caught my attention completely. Secondly, I got the chance to share screen space with Srabanti with whom I have never worked before.
Srabanti- The story was the principal attractive factor for me. Despite dealing with such an issue, the film has loads of entertainment in the form of romance, some action. So it is not at all a documentary kind of story but has all the essential elements to keep one hooked. Moreover, I got the chance to work with Saheb with whom I had once performed at an event in Dubai. So that was also a good experience.
How was the experience of working with the director?
Saheb- He is a fantastic director who gave us the liberty to do the scenes in our own way. So that made shooting the film very easy for us. He is an educated director and he has a great sense of cinema. He did not compromise on any scenes.
Srabanti- Despite being a non-Bengali, he understood the Bengali emotions so well. This is his first feature film and he has worked very hard to make it an entertaining film dealing with such an acute issue.
Saheb, are you consciously looking for different kinds of roles to do in films and web-series or will you say you are lucky that you are being offered such roles?
Saheb- We are acting in great times where there are so many new directors coming up with fresh ideas- be it for films or for web-platform. As an actor, I look for diverse roles so that I can break myself and again start from scratch. And also I have been lucky that I have been offered such roles.
Srabanti, you are trying out new roles as is evident from the latest releases. Is this a conscious step?
Srabanti- Well, I want my audience to remember me not as a glamorous actress but also as someone who could act in different kind of roles. With this in mind, I have been choosing roles which will showcase me in a different avatar in front of the audience.
We wish the talented duo all the best for Uraan and we hope that the film also flies high on the success meter!!
