Star Jalsha has always come up with innovative themes and story lines for the serials that they show to the audiences. Star Jalsha this time has come up with a serial which will help to rediscover the fundamental ethics of a family. The new serial is titled Kunjo Chaya.

A press meet was organized to announce this serial which was graced by the cast and crew of the new serial.

The story revolves around Subhash Sanyal (Dadu), an idealist teacher who lives in the village far away from his family. His family stays in the city. He helps in shaping the lives of young villagers with his moral values and principles. He may stay away from his family but he believes that every member of his family follows the principles taught by him. His illusion is broken when he comes back to the city to find that his family is not what he had imagined it to be. A twist in the tale happens when with the help of a village girl Shalik, Dadu tries to instill the values once again in his family. What happens next?

The serial is produced by Tent Cinemas who has earlier made shows like Pratidan, Bijoyini and others.

Shankar Chakraborty will be seen in the role of Subhash Sanyal, Pallabi Dey will be seen as Shalik and Somraj Maity will be seen as Ishaan in the serial.

Shankar Chakraborty will be seen in the role of Subhash Sanyal in the serial. “I once played a role of a 70 year old when I was about 30. I used to act in Utpal Dutt’s theatre group. I was acting in my own way. So he asked me whether I watched a lot of Bengali films. He also said that in Bengali films, there were two old men-Kali Banerjee and Manoj Mitra and he did not want me to act like them. He showed me how to act and I tried to reach that level. When I received applause after the performance from foreign guests at Rabindra sadan, I was elated. And now to act in the role of an old man after so many years is equally satisfying” said the actor.

Somraj Maity had to shed some weight to fit in the role of Ishaan who is a cricketer. He plays in the premier league. The actor highlighted on the fact that he was having a great time gearing up for the role. He also mentioned that the bond shown between the grandfather and the grandson reminded him of his own relationship with his grandfather. He was actually trying to bring in those elements in the character so as to make it more relatable.

Pallabi Dey who plays Shalik said “I actually am Shalik. I am just like the character-chirpy and bubbly and always moving from one place to the other. My co-stars often say that my original name should have been Shalik and not Pallabi. After playing Begum, this is a great change. And I am enjoying it to the fullest”.

Kinni Modak plays Sejhuti in the serial. Speaking about her character, she said “This has been a challenging role because this character is very different form me in real life. She parties hard and is a bit different from the other girl next door characters that I have played till now. Let’s see how the audience react to this”.

Kunjo Chaya will begin to air from 26^th August, Monday to Friday at 9 pm only on Star Jalsha SD and Star Jalsha HD.
