With the theme “Frightening the Soul: Thailand‘s Mutelu Supernatural Film Festival in Kolkata”, the Royal Thai Consulate-General in Kolkata is excited to announce the much-anticipated Thai Film Festival in Kolkata 2025, which will feature an exciting selection of Thai supernatural horror films. Deeply ingrained in Thai folklore, cultural beliefs, and the mysticism of Mutelu—a term that denotes the strong spiritual forces and supernatural aspects of Thai culture—the event is expected to engross Indian audiences in Thailand’s fascinating world of supernatural storytelling.

Offering a unique opportunity to witness Thailand’s distinctive approach to supernatural storytelling, the film festival will feature a carefully curated selection of three outstanding Thai horror films from independent productions and a new generation of filmmakers. Shutter, a cult classic that revolutionised ghost storytelling in Southeast Asia and is still regarded as one of the scariest horror films of all time, The Undertaker, a comedy-horror that blends supernatural elements with Thai cultural beliefs in an entertaining and spine-tingling narrative, and Home for Rent, a chilling psychological horror film that explores the eerie occurrences within a family home and offers a truly unsettling experience, are all on the lineup.

A lavish red carpet reception and a special screening of “Shutter,” a well-known Thai film that brilliantly combines psychological suspense and horror in a way that defines its genre, will kick off the festival. Many people consider the movie to be among Thailand’s most famous horror productions, and it is praised for its spooky setting, gripping narrative, and unsettling twist. Cinépolis, Acropolis Mall in Kolkata, will host this exclusive event on Friday, April 25, 2025, starting at 18:30. Prominent visitors, such as consular corps members, Indian film industry professionals, and cultural enthusiasts, will grace the evening.

On Saturday, April 26, 2025, three FREE public screenings of the Thai Film Festival in Kolkata 2025 will take place at Cinépolis, Acropolis Mall, following the opening event. Local horror fans have a unique chance to see the best of Thai supernatural films on a large screen at Cinepolis.
