Leading avant-garde art house Prinseps announced the opening of The Retrospective of Gobardhan Ash, a complete show honoring the life and work of this groundbreaking Indian modernist. The exhibition focuses on the years 1929–1969. Actress Riya Sen and actress Moon Moon Sen inaugurated the exhibition in the presence of Indrajit Chatterjee, Brijeshwari Kumari Gohil, Ina Puri, Richa Agarwal, and other eminent guests.

A wide variety of Ash’s work, including sketches, landscapes, portraits, self-portraits, vivid pastels, and his enduring Children Series, are on display in this exhibition.

Viewers will acquire a greater comprehension of Ash’s creative development, his technical proficiency, and his steadfast dedication to paving the way for modernism in India.

In Indian art history, Gobardhan Ash (1907–1969) is a dominant figure. Ash, who grew up in a modest family in Begampur, West Bengal, disregarded artistic norms and committed his entire life to the pursuit of creativity.

With more than 100 pieces of art on display, The Retrospective of Gobardhan Ash provides a rare chance to delve into four decades of his creative path.

This show provides a rare chance to rediscover Ash’s genius and immerse oneself in a crucial period of Indian art (the 1930s–1960s), and it comes with an extensive catalogue raisonne.

The public is welcome to view the free exhibition, which will be on display at the Kolkata Centre for Creativity from March 29 to April 21, 2024.
