“The Story and Script Attracted Me To Do The Film”- Rakhee Gulzar on Nirvana: The Salvation

Director Gautam Halder’s film Nirvana: The Salvation was screened at the 25th Kolkata International Film Festival. Prior to the screening, a press meet was organized which was graced by the director, Rakhee and others. Raj Chakraborty also graced the occasion.

The story of the film is about a young wife, Hasi who comes with her husband Jyoti to the house of Bijolibala. Bijolibala lives in the past stuck in her memories. She reacts firmly to the changes ushered in by the changing of times. Bijolibala meets with an accident and needs blood urgently. She needs O-ve blood and that is an uncommon blood group. It is hard to find a donor. So Hasi comes forward to donate blood. She comes back home with a plastered leg and is advised bed rest. Now the crisis arises as to who will perform the pujas at home?

Speaking at the occasion, Rakhee said “The story and script attracted me in the first place and that is why I wanted to do this film. I had no plans of doing films but I changed my mind after listening to the story and the character”.

The veteran actress revealed that she has no intention of directing a film in the future. She wanted to spend the rest of her life doing things that she wanted to do always like travelling, spending time with nature and so on.

Gautam Halder mentioned that when he decided to do the film, he had Rakhee Gulzar in mind for the role of Bijolibala. He had to wait seven years for the actress but the wait was worth it. She had given the role her percent.

Rakhee Gulzar said that Bengali films do not release much in Mumbai. However she has been able to watch a few films and one film that made her laugh was Anik Dutta’s film Bhooter Bhabishyat.

The cast of the film consists of Rakhee Gulzar (Bijolibala), Samadarshi Dutta (Jyoti) and Bidita Bag (Hashi).

The music of the film is by Gautam Shome and Debasis Shome.

The screenplay is by Moti Nandi and Gautam Halder.
