The West Bengal Lawn Bowls Team All Geared Up For The Gujarat Nationals
After the success of the lawn bowl team at the recently concluded Commonwealth Games, lawn bowls have caught the attention of the people. However, one will be amazed to know that this game has been played for more than 125 years at the RCGC Maidan Tent greens.
The West Bengal Lawn Bowls teams earned 7 medals out of 8 events at the National Games held in Kerala in 2005.
The Bengal Lawn Bowls Team is once again looking to repeat the successful feat at the Gujarat Nationals which will begin on the 27th of September. The Bengal team has been preparing at the RCGC greens and will take part in the eight events to be held at the Kensville Golf and Country Club Ahmedabad from 28th September to 5th October.
A press meet was organized at RCGC Maidan Tent to motivate the Bengal team. The press conference was graced by Johar Das, Secretary, Bengal Olympic Association, Rohan Ghosh, Captain, Royal Calcutta Golf Club, Devesh Srivastava, President, West Bengal Bowling Association, Gautam Sinha, and S. V.Pai, Tournament Director, Lawn Bowls, 36th National Games Gujarat.
The Bengal team has both young and experienced players. Samit Malhotra and Soumen Banerjee will be heading the men’s team. Agnesh Verma, Akhsat Musaddi, Chandan Shroff, and Karan Chowdhary (reserve player) are the other members.
The women’s team is headed by Renu Mohta along with Manisha Srivastava and Anchal Malhotra. Beena Shah, Reema Pawa, and Sushma Burman (reserve player).
Johar Das said that the youngsters have been playing extremely well at the state-level games and he was confident that they would grab the opportunity to prove their mettle at the national level as well.
The blend of young blood and experienced players indeed makes the Bengal Lawn Bowls team a great team to support at the National Games.
