“Dwarfism is a grave problem even in today’s society too. People judge you more for your physical appearance than for the person you actually are. If you are a dwarf, then you will be expected to join the circus and become a joker. This stereotypical and preconceived notion of society will be addressed in this film. However, in Kulpi, we have never tried to preach” said director Barshali Chatterjee at the trailer launch of the upcoming Bengali film Kulpi.

Also gracing the trailer launch event were Paayel Sarkar, Protyay Ghosh, Chumki Chowdhuri, Biswanath Basu, and others.

The story and script of the film are by Barshali Chatterjee.

The film’s story revolves around Kulpi or Kuldip Roy Chowdhury and his plight and agony from witnessing the inhuman discrimination of society against a particular section of the society.

Kulpi is played by Protyay who is making his debut with this film. He thanked the director and Paayel Sarkar for helping him to enact his scenes with much confidence.

Paayel who plays the love interest of Kulpi, Konkona said “We had a great time shooting the film in Mukutmanipur. I initially thought about what I will do there. It is still a virgin shooting location. One of our crew members started eating Egg-chop. And we all got hooked to it. We used to daily consume it. One day, we finished it completely. The regular customers of the snacks shop did not get a single piece of Egg-chop and they were very angry. It is a funny and memorable incident”.

She also added how she was actually slated to do another film with Barshali which did not happen somehow. So when the next time, Barshali approached her, she was ready to work with her. The story attracted her very much and she immediately said yes.

The film is produced by Bidyut Das.

Sabitri Chatterjee, Rajatava Dutta will be seen in other prominent roles in the film.

Shree Pritam, Shovan Ganguly, and Supratip Bhattacharya have composed the music for the film. The background score is by Amit-Ishan.

The film is expected to release in May 2022.
