NPTC Group of Colleges, Wales-UK and British Deputy High Commission, Kolkata, and West Bengal State Council of Technical & Vocational Education and Skill Development, organized the first-ever workshop on ‘Building Electric Vehicles Charging Infrastructure in India’ in Kolkata.

The program received support from the UK government’s Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office. Electric vehicles are an environmentally friendly means of transportation because of their minimal tailpipe emissions, and their widespread adoption might assist society in achieving its net-zero emissions targets.

The event was inaugurated by S Suresh Kumar, ACS, West Bengal Power Department. At the event, a study entitled  Capacity Building for Electric Vehicles and the Charging Infrastructure in India Opportunities and learnings from the UK was released.  Participants in this session included prominent representatives from the state government, the Kolkata Municipal Corporation, energy distribution corporations, renewable energy organizations, and operators and producers of e-vehicles.

Suresh Kumar, IAS, Additional Chief Secretary, Department of Power, Government of West Bengal, Anoop K Agrawal, Principal Secretary, Department of Technical Education, Training and Skill Development,  Government of West Bengal, R V S Kapur, Managing Director, West Bengal State Transport Department graced the occasion. 

The report made public during the event emphasizes how vital it is for many stakeholders, including business leaders, educators, and legislators, to collaborate in order to make it easier to develop and administer realistic training and skills development programs. In order to attain the Net Zero objective, states and cities implement a clean growth plan. The program in Kolkata today is part of a larger effort to improve East and Northeast India’s EV capabilities and charging infrastructure. To support the success of this project, the event intends to exchange best practices and provide a thorough plan for improving EV skilling and charging infrastructure.

Sharing best practices on the ecosystem of electric vehicle charging infrastructure and electric vehicle skills for vehicle service and maintenance was one of the event’s main focal areas. The global obstacles in this field and solutions were the subjects of extensive discussion.
