“Silks of the East” is a wonderful initiative by Ummaira. 10 percent of proceeds from the exhibition will be used for supporting the project Rangeen Khidki.

Rangeen Khidki is a youth-led organization founded by Sanjina Gupta and is backed by Y-East founded by Pauline Laravoire and Meghdut Roy Chowdhury.

Tnusree Chakraborty, Pauline Laravoire, Debaroopa Bhattacharya, Founder of Ummaira, Sanjina Gupta, Meghdut Roy Chowdhury was present at Ummaira to speak about this unique initiative.

Speaking about the initiative, Debaroopa Bhattacharya said “We are highlighting the silks found in Eastern India. Though these silks are equally durable, they are not as popular as the South Indian silks. With this exhibition, we want to make the people aware of the different silks of the Eastern region”.

Debaroopa also highlighted the fact that many materials have been fused together to create a lightweight and comfortable silk sari. These saris not only are soft but also equally shiny.

Tanusree looked pretty in a Sambalpuri silk sari. Speaking about the exhibition, she said “I love silk saris, especially the South Indian silk saris. I prefer silks as they are lightweight and very comfortable. The Sambalpuri silk that I am wearing is extremely soft. This reminds me of my mother who earlier used to wear these silks very much. Whenever we went to Puri, she sued to buy such silk saris from there”.

The price range for the silk saris is from Rs 4500 to Rs 30000.

The exhibition will continue till 27th February at Ummaira from 12 noon to 8 pm.
