The Mamta Sumit Binani Foundation, Home for You, Yi of CII, Emami Kolkata Centre for Creativity, Maheshwari International Business Foundation, Eyantram, Sew In Style, and MSME Adda hosted the “Compost Carnival: Waste Not, Compost Lots!”. It was an engaging and motivating event centered around sustainability and environmental care on 22nd April on 54th Earth Day.
The event was attended by CS (Dr.) Adv. Mamta Binani, President of MSME Development Forum WB Chapter, Shital Bavishi, Renowned Environmental Activist & Founder of Beejum, an organization promoting sustainable practices, Baibhav Agarwal, Chairperson Yi of CII, Richa Agarwal, Chairperson, Emami Kolkata Centre for Creativity, Bishnu Lohia, MD, Eyantram Waste Management Company, Rajani Kedia Ghosh, Promoter Director, Sew In Style, Prashant Maheshwari, President, Maheshwari International Business Foundation, Ashish Mittal, Director, Golden Tulip Hotel and many others.
Beginning with a hands-on composting workshop, attendees of all ages—from environmentally conscious adults to inquisitive kids—gave away useful advice on waste reduction and composting methods. The idea of composting is not new. This identical process is seen in the natural world as leaves pile up and start to rot on the forest floor. When the decaying leaves eventually find their way back to the soil, surviving roots can complete the recycling process by recovering the nutrients from the decomposing leaves.
The community had a great chance to learn about composting and its significance for environmental sustainability thanks to the educational and entertaining Compost Carnival. The skill of composting is simple. Organic waste, including leaves and food scraps, can be naturally recycled into a wonderful fertilizer that is the best for plants and nourishes the soil. In India and other nations, the practice of composting organic wastes to create useful resources is currently growing quickly due to the scarcity and high cost of landfill space, as well as growing public awareness of the negative environmental effects of organic waste.
The community came together for the compost carnival, which celebrated sustainable practices and promoted composting as a means of reducing trash and producing soil that is rich in nutrients. With engaging games and instructional sessions, this session gave locals a fun and participatory opportunity to become involved with composting.
