Disha Eye Hospitals celebrated World Braille Day, in a unique way. Dr. Debasish Bhattacharya, Chairman & Managing Director, Disha Eye Hospitals handed over products to three blind hawkers which they would be selling to earn a livelihood. Disha would extend help to 100 such hawkers in the long run. Also, present on the occasion was Mr. Biswajit Ghosh, Secretary, Society For The Welfare Of The Blind, and Dr. Sujoy Banik, Senior Consultant, Disha Eye Hospitals.

The lockdown has been a tough time for all, especially the physically challenged. Small traders, wage-laborers including hawkers were mostly affected by this lockdown. Blind hawkers, who earn their living by selling different items in various places and railway compartments, have suffered a lot. The Society For The Welfare Of The Blind has come forward to help out the blind hawkers and vendors. The products are sourced from blind vendors (Phenol & Incense Stick). The items which were distributed included Incense Sticks, Flattened rice, Peanuts, Phenols, Sanitisers, Masks, etc.

The blind hawkers who were present on the occasion were Ms. Putu Bera from Bandel, Mr. Abdul Rashid Mulla from Budge Budge, and Mr. Niranjan Ram from Narendrapur.
