UNMISH Organized Their 7th Edition Of Poornam’22, ‘Ek Muskaan ke Liye’

Kolkata-based non-profit organization UNMISH organized their 7th edition, Poornam’22– ‘Ek Muskaan ke Liye’ at Ballygunge. Nita Diwan, the founder, and director of Unmish came up with the idea for Ek Muskaan ke Liye in order to give people with disabilities the skills they need to live independently and contribute to society. This initiative was started to teach special needs people how to live respectable lives and find meaningful work.

UNMISH reaffirmed its ethos of collaborating closely with families of special children to promote a child’s overall development and move society closer to inclusion. In the past, they have developed numerous programs promoting inclusivity, acceptance, and awareness. The organization is currently focusing on educating the kids to be independent and employable.

POORNAM 22 was planned to give children and adults with special needs a day to explore, empower, and have fun through a variety of activities, including cooking classes in partnership with IIHM, textile classes led by designer Ajay Kumar, sporting events, games, cultural activities like music and dance performances, art exhibitions, and displays of artwork created by kids at Unmish. The event featured an art and product exhibition made by UDAAN, the vocational unit of UNMISH.

Actress Rituparna Sengupta, Rupkatha Sarkar Principal of La Martinierefor Girls, Priyadarshini Hakim, Mayor’s Daughter, Subhrajit Mitra, Film Director;  Pandit Tanmoy Bose,  Percussionist and Tabla Player, Bickram Ghosh, Indian Classical Table Player, and Music Composer, Dr. Sudha Kaul, Indian Social Worker and Vice-Chairperson of the Indian Institute of Cerebral Palsy, Alokananda Roy and  Consul Generals of America, Japan, Australia, Fabrice Plancon and others graced the occasion.

Special schools and different people working in the special needs department like therapists, special educators, psychologists, and NGOs also participated in the event.

According to the plan established by UNMISH, UNMISH collaborated with IIHM to host a culinary workshop with their renowned chefs for the special ones. Ajay Kumar, a well-known designer, and a select group of others also led a textile workshop where participants learned about fabric dyes and straightforward methods for creating designer goods with a marketable appeal. Additionally, various sporting events were planned. Children from UNMISH took part in that as volunteers alongside regular school and college students, demonstrating the event’s main idea that, regardless of their abilities, they were no less important. The volunteers also organized games, cultural events, and dance performances in addition to these activities. For their accomplishments, the participants received a variety of awards.
