Every year in India, more than 35000 children are born with a cleft condition. These children are not able to eat, breathe or speak properly. There is a lack of awareness about the surgery and the fact that this can be treated easily. With the help of this initiative, people will be able to know about the condition and how it can be treated.
It has been found that early intervention will help the children with clefts to lead a happy life. More than 550 children have received cleft surgery till date.
Usha Uthup said that she was glad to be a part of this initiative Muskaan. A child must not be derived from looking beautiful. With the help of 45 minutes to an hour long operation, cleft lip can be operated and the child can go back to looking normal.
The singer kept the audiences engaged with the performance of her song Darling at the event.
