A press conference was organized to announce “Utkarshini Somman 2019”, a very unique initiative by Dr. Shashi Panja to honour the efforts of the mid and small-budget puja committees in the Shyampukur constituency. Six titles will be awarded to the puja committees, each under the mid and small-budget segments. So there will be 12 awards and one special award for the best puja.

Categories as decided are as follows:

– Sera Protima : Award for the best clay artist

– Poribesh Bandhob Durgotsav : Award for those puja committees who have been committed towards environmental causes

– Haath Baralei Bondhu : Award for the puja committees for their effort towards the development of the underprivileged

– Purohit Purohit : Award to honour the best priest

– Naari Shakti Samman : Award for the best pujo which is spearheaded by the local women

– Srijonshil Pujo Bhabna : Award for the most unique concept

Besides these, any one puja committee will be awarded the title of “Sherar Shera”.

Dr. Shashi Panja’s initiative is to acknowledge the efforts of the mid and low-budget puja committees, which are otherwise overshadowed by the famous high-budget ones.
