Walkathon 2026- Focus On Awareness Of Cervical Cancer & Thalassemia

The Rotary Club of Calcutta Endeavour and the B.D.M. International Alumni Association organized WALKATHON 2026, a massive community event aimed at raising awareness of cervical cancer and thalassemia.
Over 400 alumni, educators, medical professionals, students, parents, Rotarians, and citizens who shared a commitment to preventive healthcare and social responsibility enthusiastically participated in the walkathon, which started at Ruby General Hospital at 7:00 a.m. and ended at Hiland Park Mall. Ms. Madhumita Sengupta, Principal of B.D.M. International, gave an energizing speech to kick off the event, emphasizing the importance of educational institutions in producing responsible and socially conscious individuals.
The event was graced by Dr Ramendu Homchaudhuri, District Governor, RID 3291, as the Chief Guest. He emphasized Rotary’s ongoing dedication to community health, awareness, and preventive action in his speech.
Dr. Kunal K. Dutta, CMD, Ruby General Hospital, and Dr. Partha Mukherjee, Head of the Department of Cancer, Ruby General Hospital, shared their medical perspectives. They emphasized the significance of early detection, preventive screening, and public awareness in the fight against cervical cancer and thalassemia. The CEO of B.D.M. International, Mr. S. L. Gupta, also attended the event to inspire and encourage the attendees.
The dignitaries were felicitated by Mr Subhomoy Samanta, President, Mr. Swapnadeep Ghosh, Joint Secretary, along with the core committee members of the B.D.M. International Alumni Association, and Mr Nabaneet Moitra, President of the Rotary Club of Calcutta Endeavour. This marked the start of the walk with a formal flag-off and balloon release. Throughout the route, complete safety and medical arrangements were guaranteed.
To ensure that everyone had a safe and supportive walk, designated water stations were put up at regular intervals, and medical professionals in ambulances followed the participants to offer prompt medical help. At the conclusion of the event, the competitors received medals, certificates, and goodie bags. With careful preparation and robust institutional backing, Walkathon 2026 served as a potent reminder that change begins when communities come together. The campaign underlined the organizers’ ongoing dedication to social well-being, public health advocacy, and awareness.
