The West Bengal National University of Juridical Sciences (WBNUJS) organized a landmark International Conclave titled Justice Dr. Radha Binod Pal and Quest for Justice: Historical Perspective and Contemporary Implications at ITC Sonar, Kolkata.

The occasion honored Justice Radha Binod Pal, a legendary figure in world jurisprudence who was most recognized for his fearless dissenting opinion during the Tokyo Trials, in which he defended the values of justice, impartiality, and lawfulness.

Legal experts, academics, and decision-makers convened at the conclave to talk about Justice Pal’s legacy and how it relates to current international legal issues.

The esteemed guests included Hon’ble Justice P. S. Narasimha and Hon’ble Justice Dipankar Datta from the Supreme Court of India, Hon’ble Justice T.S. Sivagnanam, Chief Justice of the High Court at Calcutta, Hon’ble Justice Soumen Sen of the Calcutta High Court, and Shri Moloy Ghatak, Minister-in-Charge of the Law & Judicial Department, Government of West Bengal.

International scholars such as Professor Mark A. Drumbl from Washington and Lee University, Professor Vincent Chetail from the Geneva Graduate Institute, and Professor William Schabas from Middlesex University, London, also graced the event.

Dr. Prosenjit Pal, the great-grandson of Justice Pal, joined the discussions, along with other dignitaries, including Consul General Nakagawa Koichi of Japan. 

Justice, decolonization, and the development of international law were among the topics covered in the event’s captivating keynote addresses, panel discussions, and scholarly exchanges. WBNUJS Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Nirmal Kanti Chakrabarti spoke during the event, praising Justice Pal’s unwavering dedication to justice and advocating for a fresh scholarly emphasis on his principles. 

The conclave was an appropriate remembrance of Justice Radha Binod Pal, whose ideas and vision still influence legal debate around the world. WBNUJS expressed sincere gratitude to everyone who helped make this celebration of his lasting legacy one to remember.
