“When You Start Playing, You Do Not Think Of Any award Or Reward”- Kapil Dev
P. C. Chandra Puraskaar 2021 was conferred on former Indian captain of Indian cricket team Kapil Dev at an event held at P.C. Chandra Gardens.
This is the 28th edition of the annual award conferred by P. C. Chandra Group on iconic personalities from different fields. The yesteryear recipients of this prestigious award were Manna De, Hema Malini, Dr. Devi Shetty, Sourav Ganguly, Mrinal Sen, Gulzaar Saab, Sunil M Gavaskar, P.T. Usha, and many others.
The P.C. Chandra Puraskaar consists of an honorarium of Rs 15 lakhs and is exempted from taxes.
Kapil Dev Ramlal Nikhanj is also known as the Haryana Hurricane he was the first Indian captain to win the ICC Cricket World Cup in 1983. He has also received the Padma Shri in 1982 and Padma Bhushan in 1991. He has also been named the Wisden Indian Cricketer of the Century.
Speaking at the event, Kapil Dev said “I have many fond memories of coming to Kolkata. And today when I came to Kolkata to receive this award, all those memories came rushing back again”.
He also said “When you start playing, you do not think of award or reward. You want to just enjoy the game and give your best shot. It is during this process that you get love and affection from the people. Then you think about whether you were playing for this love and affection. I had not thought that I will receive so much love and affection in my career. I am grateful for the love and humbled by it”.
The award was presented by Subrata Mukherjee, Cabinet Minister of the Govt of West Bengal, and Uday Kumar Chandra, Managing Director, PC Chandra Jewellers.
