The prestigious leader of India’s successful Chandrayaan-3 mission, the country’s most lauded space science accomplishment in recent memory, Dr. Somanath S, was the recipient of the P. C. Chandra Puraskaar, the annual national award from the P. C. Chandra Group.

The Annual Award Ceremony was in its 31st year.

As of January 14, 2022, Somanath S. is a Distinguished Scientist (Apex Grade), Secretary of the Department of Space, Chairman of the Space Commission, and Chairman of ISRO. Throughout an illustrious career spanning nearly 38 years, Somanath has made a substantial contribution to space technology. In the field of launch vehicle system engineering, Shri Somanath is an expert.

In addition to being a member of the International Academy of Astronautics (IAA), he is a fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering (INAE), the Aeronautical Society of India (AeSI), the Astronautical Society of India (ASI), and the National Academy of Sciences, India.

In the fields of structural dynamics and control, dynamic analysis of separation mechanisms, vibration and acoustic testing, launch vehicle design, and launch services management, he has published several papers in journals and seminars.

Dr. Somanath S received the felicitation in the presence of Shri A.K. Chandra, Managing Director, P.C. Chandra Group, and Shri. Amitava Chandra, Deputy Managing Director, P.C. Chandra Jewellers, Shri. Udipto Chandra, Director, P.C. Chandra Jewellers at Science City Auditorium, Kolkata.
