The Indo-British Scholars’ Association (IBSA), Earth Day Network, and the British Deputy High Commission Kolkata honored the winners of the World Environment Day photography competition, which was held on May 30, 2024, at British Club Kolkata, with the topic “Restoring Environment”.
Photographers in the Junior Group (those under 18) and Senior Group (those over 18) could enter the competition. The contest’s sub-themes were biodiversity conservation and climate change. People from 52 cities in 6 nations (India, UK, Canada, Bangladesh, UAE, and South Africa) submitted more than 250 photos.
Eminent nature and conservation photographer, Dhritiman Mukherjee, filmmaker and producer, Satrajit Sen, and Regional Director, Asia, Earth Day Network, Karuna Singh were part of the jury.
Dr. Andrew Fleming, British Deputy High Commissioner to East and Northeast India said: “Our yearly flagship photography competition in honor of World Environment Day is in its third year. The year’s weather extremes—particularly the recent heatwaves—show how critical it is to save our priceless ecosystem and natural resources. People of various ages have entered the contest and produced some amazing photos. I would like to congratulate all of the competition winners and express my gratitude to our panel of judges, Earth Day Network, and partners, IBSA”.
This competition gives people a chance to show off their skills while supporting environmental protection and sustainability initiatives.
