Pt. Iman Das’s concept of “Music Under One Sky” came to fruition with the inauguration of the Omkar Music Academy Kolkata branch.

It started with Raga Miyan ki Malhar, with the popular bandish ‘Bole Re Papihara’ by Anjana Nath & a popular ghazal by Ivy Banerjee.

Iman made the whole presentation more interesting with his smooth blending of electrifying taans with unusual Western patterns ably supported by Indrajit Dey on the keyboard and Parimal Chakraborty on the tabla.

The second raga khamaj saw the presentation of Bengali folk, bhajan, and Bollywood song blending by Iman Das. Iman and Ivy then sang a duet thumri “jao kadar nahi bolo” which made the audience nostalgic.

Iman sang a magical Jazz sargam improvisation and popular Bollywood song sargams blended with “Deewana kiye Shyam” in raag kirwani which left the audience in awe.

The last piece in raag bhairavi saw everyone jamming and showing their prowess which saw ‘Raske bhare tore nain”, “Hello” and “Aye Na Balam” by the Bangalore-based ace vocalist Iman with Kolkata-based anjana and Ivy. Indrajit and Parimal displayed their brilliance on the keyboard and tabla.

Manomoy Bhattacharya blessed the effort after the concert and humbly said he wants to start learning from these gurus as well. Gabu and Ranajoy equally appreciated the effort.

A grand celebration of music indeed!!
