The Bengal Home Industries Association (BHIA), one of the oldest and most respected organizations dedicated to the promotion of cottage industries, arts, and crafts, successfully arranged a two-day show highlighting Bengal’s rich handloom and handicraft heritage.

The first Honorary Secretary of the association was the renowned artist Sri Gaganendra Nath Tagore. He designed the Association’s first scarf, which is still in the Association’s collection today, with a lovely traditional motif.

Mr Shankar Bose, Secretary of BHIA, said, “In addition to promoting handicrafts, BHIA has helped underprivileged and marginalized craftsmen grow and reach new markets for the past 109 years. Today, we have the renowned embroidered bed linens that our customers consistently purchase, as well as the trademark Linecot and Roshanara Fabrics. Add to that the assortment of sarees made of silk and cotton. We take great pride in our multigenerational clientele and their unwavering support of our product ranges”.

“The variety of handwoven textiles, natural dyes, and exquisitely crafted home décor at Bengal Home is amazing. Their commitment to supporting female artisans and preserving ancient skills is what most impresses me,” said Nandini Mahtab.

BHIA

Bengal Home continues to operate with the same dedication and humanitarian goal that its founding members had in order to support and expand cottage industries, give craftspeople tools and marketing expertise, and preserve India’s cultural and artistic legacy for future generations.
