Late director Anik Dutta’s film Aparajito was not allowed to be released at Nandan. However, in a great twist of fate, his film was re-released in Nandan after his sudden demise.

The gathering served as both a celebration of the film’s return to the big screen and a heartfelt tribute to the visionary filmmaker, Anik Dutta.

The event was graced by the team of Aparajito, along with MLA Dr. Swapan Dasgupta, MLA Rupa Ganguly, MLA Rurdranil Ghosh, Anik Dutta’s daughter, Oishee, and many other eminent guests.

​It also brought together cinema enthusiasts, critics, and admirers of Anik Dutta’s work to honor his significant contributions to the film industry. The program focused on two primary objectives:

​Re-release of Aparajito: The occasion marked the return of the film to audiences, providing an opportunity for viewers to revisit its narrative depth and technical brilliance.

​Tribute to Anik Dutta: Colleagues, friends, and fans gathered to reflect on the legacy of the late filmmaker. Discussions highlighted his unique storytelling style, his commitment to artistic integrity, and the lasting impact his films have had on contemporary cinema.

​The decision to re-release Aparajito underscores the film’s enduring relevance. By pairing the screening with a tribute to Anik Dutta, the organizers fostered an environment of appreciation for the craft of filmmaking. The event emphasized the importance of preserving and revisiting works that define a director’s creative identity.

Rudranil Ghosh said, “Our CM said to take care of all the proceedings after the untimely death of Anik Dutta. He asked to take ample care so that due respect can be paid to the late filmmaker. The re-release of this film is also a way to pay tribute to his craft”.

Rupa Ganguly said that she had known the late director for a long time. She had never hoped that his film would be shown at Nandan after his death only. That was indeed a tragedy.

Jeetu Kamal hoped that the newly formed government in Bengal would ensure that the eligible works of directors would be shown at Nandan. The criteria should be the quality of their works and not be dependent on the number of sources that they have or on which political party they support.

​The celebration organized by Firdausul Hasan and Probal Halder was a fitting homage to a respected filmmaker. It successfully bridged the past and the present, ensuring that Anik Dutta’s artistic vision continues to resonate with both long-time admirers and new audiences alike.
