A proposal has been submitted to the Government of West Bengal to introduce Vedic Mathematics into the academic curriculum across all state-run and state-aided schools. The initiative was spearheaded by the Vedic Maths Forum India, an organization dedicated to promoting mental arithmetic and accessible mathematical strategies among students.

Speaking at a press conference held in Kolkata, Gaurav Tekriwal, the President of Vedic Maths Forum India, formally announced that the proposal has been sent to West Bengal Education Minister Dipak Barman. Tekriwal emphasized that introducing Vedic Mathematics will help students enhance their mental calculation skills, increase speed, and develop a stronger, fear-free foundation in arithmetic concepts.

During the conference, the Forum highlighted that Vedic Mathematics is already part of the school education ecosystem across several Indian states and Union Territories, including:

  • Dadra and Nagar Haveli
  • Daman and Diu
  • Sikkim
  • Manipur
  • Assam
  • Delhi
  • Haryana

To complement this educational push, the organization also officially launched the AI-Powered Vedic Maths Practice Engine, an interactive digital tool designed to help students master these techniques using modern technology.

Vedic Mathematics is based on 16 fundamental Sutras (word-formulae) and 13 Sub-Sutras (corollaries), which simplify complex calculations ranging from basic arithmetic to advanced algebraic operations. The foundational text on this system was first published in 1965, authored by Swami Bharati Krishna Tirtha, the revered monk and Shankaracharya of the Govardhan Math in Puri.

If approved by the state education ministry, the integration of Vedic Mathematics is expected to benefit thousands of school students across West Bengal by providing them with innovative strategies for fast problem-solving and competitive exam readiness.
